In the middle of Sunbury country lives a little sheep farm. And on that farm they have a vineyard (EIEIO)! AKA The Vineyard at Porter Central is now open as Wool & Vine, a micro winery & cidery! With really great atmosphere and owners who are really into music, this place is seriously cute!! Come out and try a flight of ciders and enjoy the fresh air and sounds of Jeff D. and Me!
Jeff D. and Me are super excited to play at the winery again! This is truly a giant oasis out in the middle of the country. It's only about 5 miles outside of Marysville, Ohio, and about 25 miles from Columbus. We will play from 6:30 to 9:30 pm so come and kick back with a glass of wine (or craft beer) and get your dinner from the evening's scheduled foodtruck, all while enjoying the beautiful country atmosphere - and, of course, great music!

Smack in the middle of old town Powell, Annie's Wine Cottage is the sweetest little place bringing you unique, hard to find wines and also your everyday staples. Anne hosts frequent wine tastings and, of course, has a wine-of-the-month club. So come park it at a table on the patio or a picnic table on the grassy lawn and enjoy listening to Jeff D. and Me while sipping your favorite wine. (Oh, and they also do have craft beer and snacks). Can't wait for this one!!

Singer/songwriter Lydia Brownfield's latest project, Albatross City, is at its core, 2 guitars with percussion - with the occasional guest. With driving beats and room to breathe, this project feels different from Lydia's previous endeavors. Albatross City has a stripped down simplicity to it that feels spacious and airy. Still with catchy hooks and memorable choruses --that Lydia is known for-- the tone is a little more loose and upbeat than the Lydia Brownfield solo project. A little bluesy. A little bluegrass, Lydia calls their sound swampy. Her guitar sings with confidence and her powerful voice reminds us she's been doing this a while.
Jeff Dalrymple, Lydia's trusted wingman, brings the sweetness with his finger-style guitar work and tight vocal harmonies. Whether Jeff is playing his Variax guitar, metal resonator, or bass guitar, his melodic mastery plays beautifully against Lydia's steady rhythm. And the addition of Ty Landrum on percussion is significant. His passion and skill takes this already mighty duo up a giant leap with not only a solid foundation, but also interesting percussive instruments and rhythmic choices.
Vocal harmonies? Check! Wide ranging dynamics? Check! Great songs? Check! Listen for Albatross City on the Columbus airwaves, and look for performances debuting in September 2023.
Why Albatross City?
There's a metaphor about the giant albatross. It stems from the poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in the late 1790’s. It’s a fascinating story about a mariner whose ship and crew get turned around and an albatross appears to lead them out of danger, but the mariner shoots and kills the albatross after which all kinds of disasters happen. The mariner is blamed for all the misfortunes that befall the ship and crew (because he killed the bird, which was an omen of good luck) and must wear the dead albatross around his neck.
The metaphor says that because the albatross shows you the way it's a blessing, but because you killed it and now you’re wearing it around your neck it's an annoying burden. In music, the term albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to describe the mixed blessing and curse of a song that becomes so popular it overshadows the rest of the artist's work. All the albatross metaphors basically say the same thing: the albatross around one’s neck is a heavy burden or curse that has become an obstacle for achieving success.
So with that, and on a very personal level - and from a certain perspective - the “gift” of writing songs can also feel like a curse. That perspective is brutal. It's taboo, but it's real and it can make a songwriters life difficult. It's a perspective of the ugliest kind. And when I find myself indulging in that vantage point, it can feel like I have become an albatross around my albatross’s neck. I am the burden to my albatross.
So down this rabbit hole was born my song, Dear Albatross, and the band name. Adding the word "City" on the end because I’m not alone in this feeling. City feels communal, or inclusive of all musicians and artists in general trying to make a living. (Also, if you say Albatross City fast it sounds like albatrocity, Alb-Atrocity, get it?)
