This one has a couple of thoughts behind it. First off, jealousy. It's a terrible thing. Comparing yourself with someone else really only leads to depression and suicide. You are you. That's all. Good, bad, better, your worst, your best; you have an entire life to be all those things - and if you're human, you will be all those things at some point in time.
Secondly, Self-loathing. It's a terrible thing too. Get over it and get on with it. I'm glad I wrote the song, it was healing for me.
Sometimes you feel that all the dreams you had have failed and that no one really cares. But it's not real - it's all just perspective. The cutthroat world is disguised by smiles and compliments when in reality the race to show the world you're worthy is only in you. But it feels devastating.

Lyrics

I faded out
The glass was painted so thin
And the fortunes fill the hands of only the special blowing in the wind. Leaving us to fend.

An image on my wall frozen there in fear
A light may shine but not seen now
It’s pretty dark in here
It’s pretty dark in here.

No glorious thunderous fire.
Or waving victorious flags
No bbq’s or stories passed down
for our children’s muse
for our children’s children’s muse

There’s no real defeat
in a languid century lie
Where the envious kill and curl their watering mouths and turn into a smile
though empty and hollow disguised.

No glorious thunderous fire.
Or waving victorious flags
No bbq’s or stories passed down
for our children’s muse
for our children’s children’s muse
